District Life is heading into print

District Life is going into print, with the first edition of a new monthly community paper launching in September.

The free print edition will land in rural mailboxes in Waimate District, with copies also available from pick-up points in Waimate, Timaru, Oamaru and Kurow.

Distribution will expand as the publication grows.

District Life exists to share the district lifestyle. There’s so much great stuff happening here and it’s changed a lot in recent years. We needed a way to share it, not just for locals and expats, but to attract more visitors, residents, businesses and investors.

Waimate District is home base, but life doesn’t stop at the district boundary. District Life crosses those invisible borders to share news and stories that will interest our largely rural and regional audience.

Community papers get read

District Life began online earlier this year and is now averaging around 200,000 views a month across its social media channels. We’re reaching expats across the world.

Digital is great at helping stories travel, but there is still something about putting a paper into people’s hands.

Going into print means reaching people in their homes, workplaces and communities - including those who may never come across District Life online.

Community papers, particularly in rural areas, get read. They’re known for delivering a return on investment for advertisers.

Print, online and email will work together. Each monthly edition will also be emailed to subscribers and available to read online, while stories published on the District Life website remain searchable and shareable long after the paper has left the letterbox.

A community paper needs a community behind it

District Life is free to read and supported by advertising and story sponsorships.

We’d love to team up with businesses and organisations to create strategic advertising that works. That promotes what they do and connects with the right people.

When you advertise with District Life, you’re also supporting our mission to showcase the district lifestyle.

Businesses, organisations and individuals can:

  • book advertising in the monthly paper

  • sponsor a page or half-page featuring a local story

  • commission a professionally produced business story

  • run a campaign across print and District Life’s digital channels.

We’ll work with advertisers to find the message that will connect, then use print and digital channels together to help every advertising dollar pull its weight.

Have news worth sharing or want to be part of the first printed edition?

Let’s have a yarn.
